Chipping Away
Still working on construction of the blog. Going to take awhile to build some of the back catalogue using 2026 as the base year. After that should be able to post more contemporaneously
Why I started this now
Tipping the balance to starting a blog/portfolio was frustration. Over time, Instagram and Facebook stopped showing posts to followers sequentially unless they switched manually to chronological order. Many don’t know this is an option, much less exercise it. Now, algorithms decide what and when to show posts to followers or, in marketing speak, followers get a ‘curated feed’
Using Insta primarily, I post logically by topic and date so my profile reads from left to right/top to bottom. Meta then feeds that in random order (if at all). Too often a post is met with the comment ‘oh, now I get your earlier post’ or ‘I thought that happened months ago’
Here, I have complete control. No faceless algorithm making curatorial and value decisions as to the worth or otherwise of posts/content and how that is to be consumed by followers
Do you have a portfolio?
Posting documentary photos on Instagram, with copy to Facebook, is something I’ve done for many years. Recently, I’ve been asked by followers whether I had an on-line ‘portfolio’ or ‘blog’. I’d always thought of my Insta as a portfolio or blog. It never occurred to me the posts were of any great interest beyond friends and family, much less that they were worthy of a dedicated on-line portfolio or blog. This combined blog/portfolio is dedicated to those who inspired me to get started
